The East Bank – Karnak Temple and a Scenic Nile Boat Ride

1. Karnak Temple – the largest religious complex in the world. Begin your day with a visit to the Karnak Temple complex, one of the most important religious sites in ancient Egypt. Walk through the impressive Great Hypostyle Hall, marvel at the towering obelisks, and experience the majesty of this sacred place dedicated to the god Amun-Ra. Your guide will reveal the fascinating stories behind the temple's construction and take you on a journey through centuries of history.

The Great Avenue of the Sphinxes in Luxor (El Kebash Road)

Luxor, the world's largest open-air museum, was created after years of demolition and restoration work. With the discovery of the remains of the ancient Avenue of the Sphinxes in Luxor in 1949 by Egyptian archaeologist Zakaria Ghoneim, the idea of restoring the Avenue of the Sphinxes was born in 2005, confirming Luxor as the world's largest open-air museum!

The initial restoration work on the Avenue of the Sphinxes in Luxor left a long trail of demolition through Luxor. Many Egyptians were forced to leave their homes, which had shaped the cityscape for decades. Old buildings, mosques, and churches also had to make way for the restoration work.

The result of all this hard work was broadcast worldwide: the opening ceremony of El-Kebash Street in Luxor in November 2021.

The street connects Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, and Mut Temple over a length of 2,700 meters. The street is believed to be 3,400 years old.

The renovated street is paved with sandstone. Sphinx-shaped statues with ram-shaped heads flank both sides of the street between the tenth building of Karnak Temple and the gate of Mut Temple. To date, a total of 1,057 statues have been unveiled along the street. The statues are divided as follows:

- 807 sphinx-shaped statues with human-shaped heads,

- 250 ram-shaped statues from the Karnak side are arranged on two sides (120–130).

In ancient Egyptian civilization, the ram's head was considered a sacred symbol of Amun, the god of sun and wind, who was worshipped in the city of Luxor.

2. A Peaceful Nile Boat Cruise

After exploring Karnak, relax on a scenic boat cruise on the Nile. This optional experience offers a relaxing moment to enjoy the natural beauty of Luxor, with views of the desert, lush palm trees, and traditional feluccas sailing across the water. Afterwards, we'll stop for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant where you can sample and enjoy authentic Egyptian cuisine.

After a full day of exploration, treat yourself to a relaxing evening at one of the select Luxor hotels. Optional evening experience for those still feeling energetic: a sound and light show at Karnak Temple.

3. The West Bank

Home to some of Egypt's most famous landmarks. The Temple of the Kings - A Journey to the Afterlife. Step into the world of the ancient pharaohs as you explore the legendary Valley of the Kings. This vast necropolis houses the tombs of Egypt's greatest rulers, including the famous Tutankhamun. The beautifully decorated walls of the tombs tell stories of the afterlife and offer visitors a rare insight into the beliefs and rituals of ancient Egypt.

4. The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut

An architectural marvel, the Terrace Temple. Next, visit the stunning Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, an impressive structure carved directly into the cliff face of the rock. As one of Egypt's most powerful female pharaohs, Hatshepsut left a legacy of majesty, and her temple stands as a testament to her remarkable reign.

5. Colossi of Memnon

The Guardians of the Temple of Amenhotep III. Your final stop on the west bank are the iconic Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues that once guarded the temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. These towering figures have stood here for over 3,400 years and are silent witnesses to the rise and fall of several civilizations.

>> For those looking to add a magical touch to their evening, the sound and light show at Karnak Temple is an experience not to be missed. As the temple comes alive with dramatic lighting and narration, you'll be transported back in time and experience the history of Thebes.

This tour was excellent! We paid extra to have the pick-up done at the airport as we arrived that morning which was ideal. We started at Karnak temple which is fantastic, so much history spanning throughout many different Pharaohs rules. The structures and magnificent and our guide was great at giving us detailed information from the different areas. We spent a little over 2 hours there which was a good amount of time to get a great experience. Secondly we went to the Temple of Luxor which was also a great follow up. The Karnak light show was likely the low point of the 2 day tour. The show is outdated and after seeing the monuments in the daylight “seeing” them at night does not ad anything more. The following morning we took a short boat ride to cross the Nile and go towards the valley of the kings. Incredible amount of history here and our guide was great giving us many details about the valley and the many things we saw along the way there. Highly recommend the tour!

Everything was absolutely amazing, from the sites to the travel to and from the sites and our accommodations. Royal tombs, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut, Karnak, Colossi of Memnon , with Nile boat and Light Show. The thing that made everything go smoothly was our guide. He is knowledgeable, nice, respectful and took care of all our needs. I would never go to Egypt without being on a GOOD tour with GOOD tour company. He was always available in person or by phone at all times of the day or night. Highly recommended

The 2-day tour of Luxor was great! our guide within these 2 days, helped us to visit the main temples and monuments of the East and West banks of Luxor being transferred by private car (direct transport from accommodation to monuments by private minibus or car as option). The company and the guide were very professional from the booking process to the meeting at the hotel, till the guided visits. The guide also took care of explaining to us how to be cautious while approaching the site, and going through the local bazaars. The price/quality ratio is good. I can only recommend the company for the efficient communication and most of all our guide. Many thanks!
